The Potter Building, completed in 1886, is still one of the most outstanding buildings across from City Hall Park. It’s officially a NYC landmark.

Orlando Potter, who footed the bill for this office building, was so enamored by the red terracotta façade used by the architects that he started his own terracotta company. Nowadays, the building, like so many other old buildings in Lower Manhattan, is residential.
